Why you don’t need a conditioner when using our bars as a shampoo:
Unlike many shampoo bars, ours do not contain ingredients like SLS that strip all moisture from our hair, therefore you do not need a conditioner. These bars are superfatted so that beneficial oils remain on your hair for extra nourishment. In place of typical conditioner, we recommend an Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinse with a 1:8 ratio of ACV to Water. This helps with tangles, balances pH, makes your hair softer and shinier. If your hair needs extra nourishment for extreme dry ends we would highly recommend our hair oil to apply to your hair tips – only a few drops are needed 1-2 times per week! It also protects against heat from styling tools and sun rays.
Transition Period:
If you're switching to these bars from a liquid shampoo or shampoo bar that contained stripping agents like SLS, you may undergo a transition period where your hair may feel heavy/greasy at first no matter what bar you choose as your oils need time to rebalance themselves! This can last up to a month, however many don't go through this at all. A good starter bar is the Coconut + Chia, but many have had great success with our: Rosemary Mint, Lemongrass + Avocado, Dandelion + Lime, and Charcoal Detox. If you do go through a transition period please make sure to always follow up with the ACV rinse and give your hair time rebalance without the stripping agents. If you want to speed up the process or reduce your chances to having heavy hair, here are some tips to help you get by:
- Rinse with an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse (1 part vinegar to 8 parts water). This helps remove buildup, balance pH, remove tangles, reduce frizz.
- Wash twice in a row if you don't get a rich lather the first time around.
- Use our natural dry shampoo when your hair is dry to absorb excess oils.
- Strip the build up with baking soda by shaking some on your wet hair in the shower, scrub it throughout, then rinse. I would do this no more than 1x during your transition period as it can be damaging to your hair, but it really helps! This is best as a last resort, so maybe after 2-3 weeks of your hair feeling heavy.
