How To Make a 'Lip Loving' Lip Balm
Lips have very thin skin, so when your lips are chapped or dry, you want to make sure that you are using a lip balm that is hydrating and protecting. Lip balms, salves, and butters lock in moisture and are great to use after a lip scrub to keep your lips smooth and moisturized.
Here's our recipe for a 'Lip Loving' Lip Balm:
This recipe makes about 6 lip balms depending on the container used. You will need either tubes or aluminum containers.
- 6 tsp/ 30 g Beeswax (for a vegan option use Candelilla Wax at 25g)
- 3 tsp/ 15 g Jojoba Oil
- 1.5 tsp/ 8 g Shea Butter
- .25 tsp/ 1.25 g of Vitamin E oil
- 8 drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil
- 4 drops of Vanilla
- 2 drops of Myrrh Resin (optional but a great ingredient to prevent and heal chapped lips)
Add the first three ingredients to a stainless steel or glass bowl.
Add one inch of water to a pot and bring it to a simmer.
Put the bowl over top of the pot without the bowl touching the water (For an example search homemade double boiler). The steam is what will melt the ingredients.
Mix occasionally until all ingredients have melted.
Using gloves to protect your hands, take the bowl off the pot then add in the balance of the ingredients. Mix well.
Slowly pour the mixture into your lip balm container.
Tip: When using shea butter as an ingredient, put it in the freezer for 10 minutes to prevent a grainy texture from occurring.
